Celebrating a year of lockdown: By The Bins – a poem by Sarah Lowe

I’ll meet you by the bins

Romantic words, often spoken

Lockdown love

I’ll meet you by the bins

Invitation accepted

A doorway to adventure

I’ll meet you by the bins

Then on to the graveyard

Where we doff our caps to Ossie Clark and Pete Burns

Heading home

Extending our time

Avoiding mask-less zombies, hunting new hosts

I’ll meet you by the bins

I’ll put the fuckers in the bloody BINs!!!

Kensal Green Cemetery, inspired by Père Lachaise Cemetery, Paris

Sarah Lowe’s early life was divided between her father’s fairground at Seaton Carew and travelling the UK motorways to county shows. A talented jockey, she represented England as a member of their Working Hunter Pony team, but her proudest achievement was winning first prize in the Ashby-de-la-Zouch camel race. She moved to London at 18 to study theology and sociology at St. Mary’s, but was immediately lured into the music biz, working at BBC Radio One with Annie Nightingale, and releasing the debut record of dub band The Hempolics on her own label. Sarah subsequently worked at record labels Wiiija and Heavenly before becoming Head of Press at Mute. In 2006 she established Fifth Avenue PR, and over the course of her career as a publicist has represented a host of renowned and respected artists ranging from The National to Suicide to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for over 23 years. In addition to her pursuits in poetry, video and Polaroid photography, Sarah has formed a new label Lowe Amusements with her husband, Bad Seed Jim Sclavunos.
